Sandwiched between storm Malik [named by the Danish Weather guys] and Storm Corrie {rumoured to be named after TCA's Correy Whiteford] ; we knocked out this beauty in the majesty of Cowal at our second Winter Training Camp. We are very grateful to be supported by the Dunoon Project who are turning the area into a centre for excellence for cycling on and off road. The TCA Tour de Cowal route notches up at around 130km with around 2000m of climbing over big hills rounding amazing lochs and sea lochs, with views to Arran and beyond. All on quiet and excellent roads.
In the first 50km you hit "Official 100 Climbs No.163. Bealach Maim" ... Maim being the Gaelic for "panic" or "terror". Legend has it our Pathway Director, Brian Smith took a bet form a fellow rider that this was unclimbable in the big ring, with Smith subsequently winning the bet. The original #mongrelsatwork !
If you are a more of a cafe-pro, feel free use the little ring a bit and shoot for the Five West in Tighnabruaich which does great food and coffee. No breaks for our lads tho' as we raced to the top of Glen Finart to squeeze the last out of the legs.
Here's the route
